Gov. Malloy & Lt. Gov. Wyman: CBO Score Confirms Senate Republican Version of Trumpcare Will Strip Healthcare Coverage from Millions, Increase Costs for States and Consumers

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements in response to the release of the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) estimates on the cost of adopting the Better Care Reconciliation Act – the Senate Republican version of Trumpcare:

Governor Malloy said, “Republicans in the Senate had an opportunity to improve the devastating bill that was passed the U.S. House of Representatives, yet they somehow managed to produce something even worse. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has reported that the bill before the U.S. Senate will leave 22 million people without health insurance by 2026, eviscerate coverage for low-income individuals, and increase premiums for the majority of Americans as their benefits vanish. Trumpcare continues to be as cruel as it is dangerous and needlessly puts millions of lives at risk. I urge the Senate to reject this plan, which is disastrous for the health of our citizens and the long-term prosperity of the United States.”

Lt. Governor Wyman said, “The ACA provides better protections for all healthcare consumers, as well as expanding care for people who previously couldn’t afford it. This CBO score confirms just how backward-leaning Trumpcare is—first the House bill and now the Senate bill will force more than 20 million Americans off of insurance, and hundreds of millions more will face higher costs as consumer protections like essential health benefits, protections for the Medicare Trust Fund, and Medicaid funding disappear. Trumpcare isn’t a healthcare plan. It’s tax relief for the top one percent, and it comes at the expense of everyone else.”
