Gov. Malloy Announces Commissioner Harris to Step Down from the Department of Consumer Protection
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) Commissioner Jonathan A. Harris will depart from his position with the agency to pursue other professional opportunities.
“During his time leading the Department of Consumer Protection, Jonathan has been diligent and effective protecting Connecticut consumers and businesses from unfair trade practices and unsafe products, while enforcing the federal and state laws that ensure a fair and regulated marketplace for all,” Governor Malloy said. “I thank Jonathan for his advocacy on behalf of the citizens of our state and wish him well.”
“I want to thank Jonathan for his tireless work as Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Protection,” Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said. “His leadership has helped us strengthen our response to the opioid epidemic, navigate the legalization of medical marijuana, and address crumbling foundations in eastern Connecticut. He’s been a strong and thoughtful advocate for residents, and a dedicated partner in service of the state.”

I’m confident that the good work we’ve accomplished together on behalf of Connecticut consumers and businesses will continue in the months and years ahead.”
Commissioner Harris was appointed to the position by Governor Malloy in December 2014. Prior to his service with the agency, he was involved in a number of public service positions, including serving as Mayor of West Hartford, State Senator for the 5th Senatorial District of the Connecticut General Assembly, and also as a member of the West Hartford Town Council. He previously served as the state’s Deputy Treasurer under the leadership of State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier, and was also Executive Director for the Connecticut Democratic Party. In addition to his public service, Harris practiced law in the private sector for over 20 years, and formed and operated a real estate and economic development business in Connecticut.
The Governor announced that DCP Deputy Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull will serve in the position of Acting Commissioner until a permanent successor is named.
The mission of DCP is to ensure a fair marketplace, safe products and honest services for all Connecticut consumers in the industries that it oversees, through regulating and monitoring the marketplace, enforcing the law, and educating and empowering consumers.
