Gov. Malloy Directs Flags in Connecticut to Remain at Half-Staff on Wednesday for the Anniversary of the Tragedy in Sandy Hook
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to remain at half-staff on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, in honor of the 20 children and six adults who were killed four years ago in the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered.
Flags are also currently at half-staff nationwide in accordance with a proclamation from President Barack Obama in tribute to former U.S. Senator, veteran, and astronaut John Glenn, who passed away last week. Flags should remain lowered until sunset on the date of Senator Glenn’s interment, which has not yet been determined. A notification will be delivered when flags should return to full-staff.
