Gov. Malloy Announces 'Q Bridge' to be Lit Red, White, and Blue for Veterans Day

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven - informally known as the Q Bridge - will be lit red, white, and blue on the nights of Thursday, November 10, and Friday, November 11, in observation of Veterans Day. Beacons capable of projecting light nearly six miles into the clear night sky will be lit until 1:00 a.m. during those nights.

"Connecticut is the proud home of nearly 280,000 veterans, and we join all of the residents of our state in honoring their service to our nation and the sacrifices they made to protect our democracy and our freedom," Governor Malloy said. "It takes a special kind of person to go to work every day prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect others - we must show these brave men and women how appreciative we are for their service. We can never do enough to pay tribute to our veterans and the steadfastness with which they have performed their duties. They represent the very best of this country, and we are grateful for their sacrifice and bravery."

"Just as Connecticut veterans have served our state and our nation, it is now our turn to serve them," Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said. "We're proud to be among only two states in the country to have ended homelessness among veterans - we've established job training initiatives, and we've built stronger support services for our veterans and their families. There's more to do, but we recognize the important role veterans have in our communities and we are honored to stand with them on Veterans Day and every day. We are grateful for their service and sacrifice."
