Gov. Malloy Signs Order Making Slight Updates to Veterans Hall of Fame Nomination Process

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy has signed an executive order making slight updates to the process used each year when considering nominations to the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame - the state's official commemoration honoring distinguished veterans who have made significant contributions to their communities.

The order makes adjustments to an earlier one signed by Governor M. Jodi Rell in 2006 that lays out the selection process. The updates include:

  • Modification to the membership on the Hall of Fame's executive committee to include the co-chairs and ranking members of the state legislature's Committee on Veterans' Affairs, or their designees;
  • Elimination of the requirement that approximately ten veterans be inducted per year, allowing for as many inductees as the executive committee sees fit; and
  • An adjustment to the eligibility of who can be inducted, including the elimination of the requirement that the inductees must have served in the military during specific wartime periods.

Last week, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman and Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Sean Connolly announced that nominations are now being accepted for the 2016 class of inductees to the Veterans Hall of Fame. Information on the nomination process and the forms needed to submit an application can be obtained by visiting the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs website. Applications for this year's class must be submitted by September 23, 2016.
