Gov. Malloy & Lt. Gov. Wyman on the Passing of Art Perry

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today released the following statements regarding the passing of Art Perry, a senior Department of Labor employee and a long-time leader of the organized labor movement in Connecticut:

Gov. Malloy said, "What an extraordinary person - and what an extraordinary advocate for the causes he believed in. Art Perry spent his career fighting for working people. He organized for justice, and fought for equality. He strived to support everyday people - and he delivered. Art was and will continue to be an inspiration to those around him and to future leaders who will follow in his footsteps. Many of us will always remember his passionate call for change: 'No struggle, no progress'. These words resonated not just because of the depth of the message, but because of the dynamic voice that delivered them. They came from a friend - a friend to all of us who will be missed. I want to extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who was touched by his actions and his spirit over the course of his life."

Lt. Governor Wyman said, "Art's passing is a great loss for Connecticut. He was a personal friend and among the most committed voices I've ever known calling for justice, dignity, and quality of life for working men, women, and their families. Art was a powerful example of tenacity and leadership, and he was well-respected for his ability to keep a cool head during the most stressful times. My love and thoughts are with his family and friends during this very sad time. Art leaves us a legacy-a call to action, to continue fighting for fair wages, equal pay, and all the working families in Connecticut. I will miss my friend."
