Gov. Malloy on the Departure of Arne Duncan as U.S. Education Secretary
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the following statement in response to the announcement that U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan is stepping down from the position in December:
"Arne Duncan has been a champion for schools nationwide. He's worked tirelessly to level the playing field by helping all children - regardless of zip code - have a bright future. The Secretary has ushered in a new era for our schools, focusing on high expectations and college and career readiness. I am proud of our collaborative efforts and the strong relationship that our state has had with Secretary Duncan. His efforts to close the achievement gap and give children of all backgrounds new opportunities will resonate well past his tenure. I wish him well in his future endeavors."
