Friday: Gov. Malloy Participates in Hammonasset Beach Groundbreaking; Tours Attractions on the Shoreline
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Friday afternoon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the start of major improvements at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, including a new Meigs Point Nature Center and improvements to West Beach, which was damaged by recent severe storms. He will be joined by Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Rob Klee, Department of Administrative Services Commissioner Melody Currey, First Selectman Fillmore McPherson, park advocates, and other state and local officials.
Following that, Governor Malloy will visit two attractions along the central Connecticut shoreline to showcase some of the popular destinations the state has to offer. Tourism activities in Connecticut contribute $14 billion to the local economy and supports more than 118,000 jobs statewide. A recent economic impact study shows growth of the industry in Connecticut over the last several years.
