Gov. Malloy Statement on January Jobs Report

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the following statement in response to the release of the Connecticut Department of Labor's monthly "Labor Situation" report for January 2015.

The monthly report shows that Connecticut saw a net increase of 5,500 private sector jobs in January 2015 and the unemployment rate is at 6.3%, a five-year low.  The statistics also show that in 2014, Connecticut had its best growth of private sector jobs since 1998, growing over 23,000 positions.

"Our economy is continuing to head in the right direction, with the private sector steadily adding jobs at a rate that our state hasn't seen in decades," Governor Malloy said.  "We're positioning Connecticut's economy for long-term growth and the results are moving in the right direction.  But we cannot stop here - we will continue in our efforts to move Connecticut forward to ensure that everyone in our state who wants a job has one."
