Gov. Malloy: Special Elections for Three General Assembly Seats to be Held February 24
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that special elections to fill three vacancies in the Connecticut General Assembly will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. The elections will be for the 23rd Senatorial District, which covers portions of Bridgeport and Stratford; the 107th Assembly District, which covers all of Brookfield, and portions of Bethel and Danbury; and the 129th Assembly District, which covers a portion of Bridgeport.
The Senate seat was most recently held by Andres Ayala, and the House seats were most recently held by Auden Grogins and David Scribner. While all three legislators won their most recent elections to serve during the 2015 legislative session, they chose not to be sworn into office this week and vacancies were declared.
Under state law, the Governor is required to issue a Writ of Special Election within ten days of a vacancy in the General Assembly, and a special election must be held 46 days after it is issued. Governor Malloy is filing the writs today.
