GOV. MALLOY RE-APPOINTS KEVIN SULLIVAN AS COMMISSIONER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE SERVICES
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he intends to re-appoint Kevin Sullivan as Commissioner of the Department of Revenue Services (DRS) when his second term in office begins on January 7, 2015.

"Kevin's background in public service has given him an exceptional knowledge of the inner workings of state government, and over the last four years he utilized that experience to work with the staff at DRS and implement a number of efficiencies and improvements to make DRS more responsive to the people of the state," Governor Malloy said. "I thank him for his service during my first term in office and look forward to having him continue in this role."

"I appreciate this opportunity to continue my service to Connecticut and am grateful for Governor Malloy's confidence in my leadership at the Department of Revenue Services," Commissioner Sullivan said. "When the Governor first offered me this opportunity in 2011, he said he was looking for more than tax collector. Since then, DRS has become much more of a policy partner in our state's fiscal and economic renewal. I enthusiastically look forward to building on our agency's proven track record of performance, productivity, innovation and taxpayer service."

Commissioner Sullivan began the position as the head of DRS in January 2011 .

During his nearly four years as head of the agency, its major accomplishments include:

  • Over 40% productivity improvement in tax collections per employee
  • Connecticut's must successful tax amnesty, collecting $193 million from existing taxes due
  • Significantly increased taxpayer access to online information and services as well as electronic filing
  • Settlement with Amazon.com to collect taxes for online sales while investing at least $50 million to build a Connecticut distribution hub and create at least 300 new jobs
