WEDNESDAY: GOV. MALLOY COMMEMORATES NEW LAW STRENGTHENING UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION'S COMMITMENT TO CONNECTICUT; ATTENDS EVENTS IN HARTFORD AND GREENWICH
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Wednesday at noon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will hold a ceremony at the Pratt & Whitney hangar in East Hartford to commemorate the enactment of the Connecticut Aerospace Reinvestment Act . The act supports an agreement the Malloy Administration reached earlier this year with United Technologies Corporation (UTC) under which the company will invest up to $500 million over the next five years to upgrade and expand its aerospace research and development and manufacturing facilities in Connecticut. During the same time period, UTC expects to invest up to $4 billion in research and other capital expenditures in the state, impacting more than 75,000 jobs in the Connecticut. The Governor will be joined at the event by Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, state and federal lawmakers, and executives and staff from UTC.
Later, Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Wyman will join Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra, Connecticut's Congressional delegation, and other state and local leaders at Bushnell Park in Hartford, where a three-story high sculpture created from 2,000 pounds of shredded illegal guns purchased through voluntary gun buybacks will be unveiled. The sculpture, created by internationally renowned artist Michael Kalish, is part of the "Raise the Caliber" campaign - a national advocacy effort to end illegal gun violence.
Following that, Governor Malloy will participate in the grand opening ceremony for the Fifth Street Finance Corporation's new headquarters in Greenwich. The specialty finance company is relocating its business from New York to Connecticut.
