MONDAY: GOV. MALLOY KEYNOTES MIDSTATE CHAMBER MEETING; MARKS MAJOR BIOSCIENCE CONNECTICUT MILESTONE; GREETS CYCLISTS PARTICIPATING IN RIDE 2 RECOVERY MINUTEMAN CHALLENGE
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Monday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will be the keynote speaker at the Midstate Chamber of Commerce's breakfast meeting in Meriden, where he will speak to the local business community about his agenda for Connecticut's future.
At noon, Governor Malloy will lead a topping-off ceremony for the new hospital tower at the UConn Health Center in Farmington, marking the placement of the final steel beam on the building, which has been under construction for the last 18 months. The new hospital tower is one of the capital projects of Bioscience Connecticut, a nearly $1 billion package of state investments Governor Malloy proposed in 2011 intended to make Connecticut a worldwide destination for biomedical research and health care. Bioscience Connecticut is credited with creating more than 2,600 construction jobs.
Later, Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman will greet more than 150 cyclists, including injured veterans and their supporters, who will be bicycling into Hartford as part of the Ride 2 Recovery Minuteman Challenge, a six-day, 355-mile bicycle ride from Waltham, Massachusetts to New York City sponsored by UnitedHealthcare. Ride 2 Recovery helps injured veterans improve their health and wellness through individual and group cycling, and benefits military mental and physical rehabilitation programs that feature cycling as the core activity. A street fair and speaking program will be held to welcome the cyclists to the city.
