FRIDAY: GOV. MALLOY ATTENDS EVENTS IN NORWALK; SPEAKS WITH STAMFORD CHAMBER; HIGHLIGHTS MAJOR TRANSPORTATION GRANT FOR EASTERN CONNECTICUT
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will participate in the grand opening ceremony of Connecticut's first Pathways in Technology Early College High School - the IBM-affiliated Norwalk Early College Academy. The P-TECH school will allow students to participate in an integrated sequence of high school and college classes, job training and internships with IBM.
Following that, Governor Malloy will join State Senator Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) and others to kick-off the construction of a new $46 million mixed-use housing and retail development in Norwalk, "Wall Street Place." The long-sought project features 101 housing units (about half of which are affordable or supportive housing) and 16,000 square feet of retail space. Half of the development costs will be privately financed with the other half coming from state, federal and local funds.
In the afternoon, Governor Malloy will be the keynote speaker at the Stamford Chamber of Commerce's annual meeting, where he will speak with the local business community about his agenda for Connecticut's future.
Later, Governor Malloy will join members of Connecticut's Congressional delegation and local business leaders at a news conference in New London to highlight the benefits of the recently announced $8.2 million federal TIGER Grant the state received to modernize the freight rail infrastructure in the eastern portion of Connecticut. Since taking office in 2011, Governor Malloy has helped the state secure a total of $53.1 million in funding from the federal transportation program.
