FRIDAY: GOV. MALLOY TOURS SIKORSKY; 'WALKS THE BEAT' IN NEW HAVEN; ATTENDS COMMUNITY MEETING IN HARTFORD

(HARTFORD, CT) - On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give the keynote speech at a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the National Jobs Corps program.

In the afternoon, Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman will visit the Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in Stratford for an opportunity to tour the facility, meet with its employees, and discuss the agreement the Governor reached with its parent company, United Technologies Corporation (UTC), under which the company will invest up to $500 million to upgrade and expand its aerospace research development and manufacturing facilities over the next five years. During the same time period, UTC expects to invest up to $4 billion in research and other capital expenditures in the state, impacting more than 75,000 jobs in the Connecticut. Their tour will be immediately followed by a media availability.

Later, Governor Malloy will join Mayor Toni Harp, New Haven Police Department officials, local clergy, and community leaders for an opportunity to "walk the beat" in New Haven and discuss crime reduction efforts, highlighting the importance of community policing to promote trust between the community and law enforcement.

Following that, Governor Malloy will attend a portion of the events happening at the 2014 Connecticut Open.

In the evening, Governor Malloy will participate in a meeting organized by Reverend Stephen W. Camp of Faith Congregational Church in Hartford. The meeting will be attended by Hartford city officials, local law enforcement and city residents.
