THURSDAY: GOV. MALLOY HIGHLIGHTS TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN NEW LONDON COUNTY; MEETS WITH U.S. TRANSPORTATION SECRETARY
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Thursday, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will commemorate the start of Independence Day weekend by visiting three tourist attractions in New London County to showcase some of the popular destinations the state has to offer. The Governor's visits will include the Submarine Force Museum in Groton, home of the historic ship Nautilus; Ocean Beach Park in New London, a recreational facility that provides beach access and boardwalk attractions, including a pool, water slides, an arcade, a carousel, rides, a food court, and a nature walk; and lunch at Sandbar Café , which overlooks the Thames River. In Connecticut, travel and tourism activities generate $11.5 billion annually in economic activity and are responsible for 110,000 jobs.
In the afternoon, Governor Malloy will meet with U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx at the State Capitol in Hartford to discuss Connecticut's transportation priorities and the need for Congress to immediately address the Highway Trust Fund shortfall and pass a long-term reauthorization of the nation's surface transportation program. At the conclusion of their meeting, they will hold a media availability. They will also be joined by members of Connecticut's Congressional delegation.
