MONDAY: GOV. MALLOY PARTICIPATES IN STATEWIDE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS DRILL

(HARTFORD, CT) - On Monday, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will participate in a statewide emergency preparedness drill designed to enhance mass care planning, readiness and disaster preparedness at all levels of government and the state's utilities. Coordinated by the state Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the two-day statewide exercise will simulate a Category 1 hurricane and invites every municipality, utilities, and the private sector to participate in an effort to improve preparedness and response in the event of an emergency or other natural disaster.

This is the third annual year that a statewide exercise of this type has been coordinated under Governor Malloy's direction. In 2012, Governor Malloy signed legislation requiring an emergency exercise to be conducted annually that tests the emergency management framework and drills disaster response.

In addition to participating in unified command meetings from the state Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Hartford on Monday morning, the Governor will visit a site in Milford where municipal officials will be participating in the drill. In the afternoon, the Governor will hold a news conference at the state EOC to discuss the details of the exercise.
