MONDAY: GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF NEW EFFORT ENCOURAGING FORMER STUDENTS TO RETURN TO COLLEGE; PARTICIPATES IN SUBMARINE KEEL-LAYING CEREMONY
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Monday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will hold a news conference at Manchester Community College (MCC), where he will announce the official launch of "Go Back to Get Ahead" - a new initiative included in the recently signed state budget that will help Connecticut residents who have left college without earning a degree with the associated tuition costs of returning to school and encouraging them to complete their higher education goals. He will be joined by MCC President Gena Glickman, Charter Oak State College Provost Shirley Adams, Board of Regents for Higher Education Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael Gargano, and other state and local officials.
In the afternoon, Governor Malloy will participate in a ceremony at Electric Boat's manufacturing plant in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, where the keel will be laid for the USS Illinois submarine. The ceremony will be attended by First Lady Michelle Obama, the ship's sponsor.
