FRIDAY: GOV. MALLOY ATTENDS RED CROSS HEROES BREAKFAST; KICKS OFF SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will attend the American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast in Trumbull, where he will present the organization's Community Resilience Award to Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra, who will be accepting the award on behalf of the Newtown community, including its citizens, government, first responders, volunteers, and local and outside organizations.
Later, Governor Malloy will kick-off the launch of the 2014 Governor's Summer Reading Challenge at the State Library in Hartford and also honor the winners of the 2013 challenge. The Governor's Summer Reading Challenge is an annual program co-sponsored by the State Department of Education and the State Library to encourage reading among school students across Connecticut. He will be joined by State Librarian Kendall Wiggin and State Department of Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor.
