GOV. MALLOY APPLAUDS HOUSE APPROVAL OF WATER PLANNING LEGISLATION
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy applauded the Connecticut House of Representatives for approving legislation today that commits the state to creating a state water plan that will plan effectively for future demand and maintain water as an asset.
"Creating path towards a strategic water plan makes good economic sense to ensure adequate and safe public water for our citizens," Governor Malloy said. "As responsible leaders, we must be smart stewards and plan ahead to preserve water for future generations while we have the luxury of its abundance. By taking on the task of developing a statewide strategic water plan now, we can reduce climate change uncertainty, plan effectively for future demand and maintain water as an asset. If we want sustainable development, than we must make sure it is in harmony with the available water resources."
The legislation is House Bill 5424 , An Act Concerning the Responsibilities of the Water Planning Council . The Governor said that he looks forward to signing the legislation after it receives final approval from the State Senate.
