FRIDAY: GOV. MALLOY, AFL-CIO PRESIDENT TRUMKA HIGHLIGHT NEW STATE LABOR DEPARTMENT INITIATIVES; ATTENDS OTHER EVENTS IN MERIDEN AND NEW HAVEN

(HARTFORD, CT) - On Friday afternoon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will hold a news conference in Hartford to highlight two new Connecticut Department of Labor initiatives. The first helps returning U.S. veterans seeking employment opportunities to obtain jobs with local police and fire departments. The other is a talent matching system that targets job opportunities to unemployed clients based on job experience and qualifications. The Governor will be joined by Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, Connecticut Department of Labor Commissioner Sharon Palmer, national AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, and other state and local officials.

Later, Governor Malloy will join Meriden Mayor Michael S. Rohde for the groundbreaking ceremony of a major renovation project at the City of Meriden's Downtown Hub Project. The project, financed in part with $3.85 million in state bonding, will relieve downtown flooding, increase economic activity and create the first downtown town green in Meriden's history.

In the evening, Governor Malloy will make remarks at the retirement dinner of former Connecticut AFL-CIO President John Olsen.
