GOV. MALLOY SELECTS LUKE BRONIN AS GENERAL COUNSEL
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has named Luke Bronin to serve as General Counsel in the Office of the Governor.
Bronin most recently served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes at the U.S. Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C. In that capacity, he helped lead the federal government's efforts to isolate the repressive regimes in Iran and Syria, disrupt the flow of funds to the Taliban and terrorist groups around the world, and combat transnational organized crime.
Bronin most recently served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes at the U.S. Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C. In that capacity, he helped lead the federal government's efforts to isolate the repressive regimes in Iran and Syria, disrupt the flow of funds to the Taliban and terrorist groups around the world, and combat transnational organized crime.
His appointment is contingent upon approval by the General Assembly of the nomination of Andrew J. McDonald, who currently serves as the Governor's General Counsel, to the Supreme Court.

"During his time as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes, Luke Bronin was an integral part of Treasury's efforts to protect the integrity of the U.S. financial system, and advance core national security and foreign policy interests of the United States," Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen said.
Cohen continued, "His leadership and expertise were critical to targeting those threatening the United States, and have contributed greatly to the successful accomplishment of Treasury's national security mission. He was our point man on some of the most challenging issues related to national security from combating terrorist financing in Afghanistan and Pakistan to traveling around the globe to preempt Iranian attempts to evade international sanctions. Luke has a bright future and he will be missed here at Treasury as he begins the next part of his career."
Previously, Bronin served as the Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, as an international affairs fellow with the Council on Foreign Relations, and as Chief of Staff to the President of The Hartford Financial Service's Group's property & casualty operations.
In addition, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve, including a deployment to Afghanistan from September 2010 to April 2011, where he was a member of the military's anti-corruption task force.
Bronin earned his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School, a diploma in Legal Studies and a Master of Science in economic and social history from the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Yale College. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association.
