GOV. MALLOY RECOGNIZES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
Legislation Strengthens Protections for Victims
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today issued
a proclamation
in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, October 2012.
In June 2012, the Governor signed
Public Act 12-114
, An Act Concerning Domestic Violence, which strengthened protections against domestic violence in Connecticut including expanding the definition of stalking and allowing courts to issue restraining orders for a full year, up from six months.
In his first year in office, Governor Malloy signed
legislation
that implemented new safety measures for victims of domestic violence-including teen dating violence-and funding 24-hour staffing at protective domestic violence shelters.
