GOV. MALLOY APPOINTS TERRY EDELSTEIN AS NONPROFIT LIAISON
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has appointed Terry Edelstein of South Glastonbury to serve as the Governor's Nonprofit Liaison, a cabinet-level position that serves as a state advocate for nonprofit community providers.
For the past thirty years, Edelstein has served as President and CEO of the Connecticut Community Providers Association (CCPA), a trade association that represents organizations providing services and supports for people with disabilities and significant challenges including children and adults with mental illness, developmental and physical disabilities. In that role, Edelstein directed CCPA operations and oversaw the overall public policy direction for the association.
"Nonprofit community-based providers in Connecticut provide vital services to so many residents and are an important partner in supporting the state's safety net," Governor Malloy said. "By engaging the nonprofit community in a concerted, strategic way, we can ensure that services are maximized while costs are minimized. Terry Edelstein has dedicated her career to tirelessly advocating on behalf of nonprofits and she has had a lasting, positive impact on human services in our state. Her vast experience and knowledge of the nonprofit community will be a key resource in the state's efforts to strengthen these services."
The position was established by Governor Malloy last year and functions at the same level as a commissioner of a state agency.
Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said, "We are extremely fortunate to have Terry Edelstein, a proven leader in the nonprofit community, join the Administration as the newly appointed Nonprofit Liaison. I have full confidence that her vast knowledge and exceptional experience will aid us in strengthening the partnership between the state, nonprofits and the communities they serve."
"I am delighted to have been designated by Governor Malloy as his Nonprofit Liaison," Edelstein said. "This position provides an important linkage between community providers and the Executive Branch and reflects a strong message from the Administration of its ongoing commitment to the nonprofit health and human services organizations that serve as the safety net for 500,000 of the state's residents."
She continued, "I look forward to meeting with and hearing from nonprofit advocacy groups and provider organizations as we work collectively with the Administration to support individuals with disabilities and significant challenges."
Edelstein holds a Masters of Public Health from Yale University Medical School and a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College in Ohio. She has served on a number of state and national committees, including recently as a member of Governor Malloy's Two Storm Panel and also as an appointee on the Department of Children and Families' Continuum of Care Partnership.
She will officially begin the position on October 5.
