TODAY: GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES STATE VETERANS MEMORIAL; RECAPS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE; PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL GUARD SEND-OFF CEREMONY

(HARTFORD, CT) - This afternoon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Wyman will hold a news conference in Hartford to announce plans to construct the first state memorial honoring veterans from Connecticut who have served in the United States military.

Later, Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Wyman will hold a news conference at the state Emergency Operations Center to recap and review the results of last weekend's statewide emergency preparedness drill. The four-day exercise simulated a Category 3 hurricane and was designed to improve communication between the state's utility companies and state and local governments in the event of an emergency of other natural disaster.

In the evening, Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Wyman will participate in a send-off ceremony at the State Armory in Hartford for 260 soldiers of the 143rd Military Police Company and the 248th Engineer Company, who are being deployed to Afghanistan and Bahrain.
