Flags to fly at half staff until noon
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman issued the following statements commemorating Memorial Day, observed May 28, 2012:
"Memorial Day is an opportunity to honor the service and sacrifice made by our men and women in uniform. Beginning with the troops whose perseverance helped build this great nation through the courageous men and women deployed overseas today, we are deeply grateful to our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guard for their work," said Governor Malloy. "Their diligence, bravery, and heroism protects our freedom and makes this world a safer place."
"Freedom is something that should be cherished every day - and especially on this holiday," Lt. Governor Wyman said. "I urge all of our residents to turn out to support Memorial Day events in their cities and towns and pay tribute to the sacrifice of the heroes who died defending us. There are few things more important that we can do as citizens of our great nation."
In accordance with the U.S. Flag Code, the Governor has directed U.S. and state flags to fly at half staff from sunrise until noon on Memorial Day.
