STATEMENT FROM MIKE LAWLOR, UNDER SECRETARY FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE
(HARTFORD, CT) - Statement from Mike Lawlor, Under Secretary for Criminal Justice in regards to Cold Case Unit budget:
The Chief State's Attorney has reallocated some personnel and resources to focus on recent shootings in Hartford and several other cities. They have already achieved significant results, largely by solving recent "cold cases" in those cities and by removing some extremely violent, high risk individuals from neighborhoods plagued by these shootings. This strategy is saving lives, and we support it. In the meantime, we have been assured that the Cold Case Unit will remain active on all cases it has been investigating.
The Office of Policy and Management has provided Chief State's Attorney Kevin Kane and the Hartford shooting Cold Case Unit with $230,000 this year, including $100,000 still unspent, in federal JAG grant funds.
