GOV. MALLOY'S TWO STORM PANEL TO MEET FRIDAY
Witt Associates to Discuss Review of Utility Companies
(HARTFORD, CT) - The working group Governor Dannel P. Malloy created to review the preparedness, response and recovery efforts of Tropical Storm Irene and the October Nor'easter will meet on Friday, December 2, during which they are scheduled to hear a presentation on the final report from Witt Associates on their review of Connecticut public utility companies and their handling of the recent October snowstorm.
Witt Associates, a consulting firm led by former FEMA Director James Lee Witt, agreed in the immediate aftermath of the October storm at the request of Governor Malloy to conduct a pro bono, independent review of the companies. The Governor has requested Witt Associates to discuss the details of their final report with the Two Storm Panel so that the working group can consider the consulting firm's analysis in developing their own final recommendations.
In addition, the Two Storm Panel will also hear on Friday presentations on the storms' impact on water supplies and water treatment facilities, a presentation on the evolution of the electric grid, and recommendations from the Military Department, the Fire Commission, and the Connecticut Food Association.
Information on the meeting, which begins at 9:30 a.m. in Room 1D of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, can be found in the attached meeting agenda . Witt Associates is expected to begin their testimony at approximately 11:00 a.m. This will be the seventh meeting the group has held since it was initially created by Governor Malloy in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene.
The eight-member group is charged with reviewing the preparedness, response and recovery efforts of the state and its partners - including the utilities and municipalities - related to Tropical Storm Irene and the October Nor'easter, and then presenting to Governor Malloy a set of recommendations on how those efforts can be improved.
