GOV. MALLOY: STATE EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER TO OPEN SATURDAY AT 2 P.M.
(HARTFORD, CT) - In advance of possible power outages due to the forecast heavy, wet snow, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will open the Emergency Operations Center at the Hartford Armory on Saturday, October 29 at 2 p.m.
"We are watching the trajectory of this storm closely, and are preparing in the event that wet, heavy snow brings down trees and limbs, causing power outages for residents across the state," said Governor Malloy. "While we hope this storm's impact is minor, it is important that people are prepared to lose power - make certain you have batteries, fully charged cell phones, operational generators, food and water, and plenty of warm clothing."
The Emergency Operations Center, staffed by personnel from the Departments of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Transportation, Military, Public Health, Energy and Environmental Protection, as well as representatives from Connecticut Light & Power, United Illuminating and AT&T, will remain open throughout the duration of the storm. Governor Malloy directed staff at DESPP to reach out to the utilities in advance of the storm to discuss response capabilities in the event of power outages across the state, and the utilities participated in the Governor's 3 p.m. conference call today.
Governor Malloy's press office will advise the media of any briefings that may be scheduled.
