THURSDAY: GOV. MALLOY DISCUSSES CONSTRUCTION JOBS OUTLOOK; VISITS SEIDEL CORP. & CURTIS PACKAGING ON JOBS TOUR; ATTENDS STATE 9/11 MEMORIAL SERVICE
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Thursday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will join Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra and Department of Labor Commissioner Glenn Marshall for a news conference to discuss a five-year outlook on construction jobs in north central Connecticut. A new report, developed by Capital Workforce Partners, projects that the state will see a substantial growth in construction jobs in that part of the state over the next five years and skilled workers will be needed to meet the demand.
Continuing on his Jobs Tour, on Thursday afternoon Governor Malloy and Department of Economic & Community Development Commissioner Catherine Smith will visit Seidel Inc. in Waterbury to meet with the company's management and staff and discuss their overall business outlook. Seidel employs about 100 people and specializes in anodizing aluminum, electropolishing, metal finishing and laser engraving services.
Also on his Jobs Tour, on Thursday afternoon Governor Malloy and Commissioner Smith will visit Curtis Packaging in Sandy Hook for a tour of the facility with the company's executives. Curtis Packaging is one of the nation's leading providers of custom paperboard folding cartons and employs 151 people. All of its products are manufactured at its headquarters in Sandy Hook.
Later on Thursday evening, Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman will attend the State of Connecticut's memorial service in remembrance of the victims of September 11, 2011 at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. Family members of those who were killed on 9/11 will join the service, and each victim's name will be read aloud. A sculpture made in part from aluminum cladding from the World Trade Center will also be unveiled during the ceremony.
