GOV. MALLOY: S.T.O.R.M. IRENE PANEL HOLDS FIRST MEETING WEDNESDAY

Panel Begins Assessment of Response to Tropical Storm Irene

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State Team Organized for the Review of Management of Irene (S.T.O.R.M. Irene) assessment team will hold its first meeting at the State Capitol on Wednesday to begin its review of the preparedness, response and recovery efforts of the state and its partners - including the utilities and municipalities - related to Tropical Storm Irene.

Governor Malloy said, "It is important that a broad, objective evaluation be done to review how Irene was handled in the state, identifying areas that can be improved upon and - most importantly - make recommendations for future disaster preparedness and response. This will be a comprehensive evaluation of state agencies, utility companies, municipalities, non-profits and the private sector."

At this first meeting, the panel, which is comprised of eight members with diverse professional backgrounds in the military, disaster relief, municipal government, non-profit and labor sectors, will receive their charge from Governor Malloy and then begin an organizational discussion on its objectives and goals. Once complete, the team is anticipated to report back to the Governor with its evaluation.

The meeting will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28 in Room 310 of the State Capitol.
