WEDNESDAY: GOV. MALLOY SPEAKS AT SUPERINTENDENTS' BACK-TO-SCHOOL CONFERENCE; CONTINUES JOBS TOUR IN SOUTH WINDSOR & HARTFORD
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will welcome school superintendents from across the state at the Department of Education's Back-to-School Conference in East Hartford.
Also on Wednesday morning, as a part of his Jobs Tour, Governor Malloy and Department of Economic & Community Development Commissioner Catherine Smith will visit UTC Power in South Windsor to join the company's executives for a discussion about their overall business outlook, followed by a tour of the facilities and meeting with its employees. UTC Power is a world leader in developing and producing fuel cells that generate energy for buildings, busses and automobiles, in addition to space and submarine applications. The company is based in South Windsor, where it employs around 450 people.
On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Malloy and Commissioner Smith will meet with the Greater Hartford Arts Council at Billings Force Community Works in Hartford, where they will meet with Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra and the organization's staff to discuss the ways arts, culture and heritage sites serve as tourism destinations, impact the local economy and revitalize communities. The nonprofit arts are a significant industry in Greater Hartford, generating more than $244.1 million in local economic activity.
