GOV. MALLOY ORDERS FLAGS TO HALF STAFF FOR PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy directed the U.S. and Connecticut flags lowered to half staff tomorrow in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, observed annually on May 15.
"National Peace Officers Memorial Day gives us the opportunity to honor the brave men and women in law enforcement, and the work they do to protect our residents and communities," said Governor Malloy. "My uncle George was a police officer in Stamford. This is a tough job and we are grateful for all of their efforts in cities and towns across Connecticut. We also remember the members of our law enforcement community who have given their lives in the line of duty. Their service to the citizens of the State of Connecticut will not be forgotten."
Started in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, National Peace Officers Memorial Day corresponds with Police Week.
Flags will fly at half staff until sunset on May 15.
