Filing Season - Hiring a Tax Preparer

Recently, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offered a list of ten tips to keep in mind when choosing a tax preparer.

New for 2019, the State of Connecticut now requires all non-exempt, paid tax preparers who prepare more than 10 Connecticut income tax returns or more than 10 federal income tax returns for Connecticut clients, or a combination of both, to obtain a CTDRS permit.

To date, more than 1,630 paid tax preparers have registered with CTDRS.

As a reminder, if you prepare your own tax returns, Connecticut does have a direct filing portal called the Taxpayer Service Center (TSC) that is easy, secure and free to use to help you prepare and file your individual state income tax return.
