Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Jewel Mullen will join a national panel of experts to discuss emergency preparedness issues through a live, interactive on-line forum on Tuesday, September 16th at 2:00 p.m. EDT

The forum is hosted by the American Public Health Association as a “Google+ Hangout,” an online video chat program. The forum is part of their Get Ready Campaign to help Americans prepare themselves, their families and their communities for all disasters and hazards, including pandemic flu, infectious disease, natural disasters and other emergencies. Across the country, Get Ready Day is recognized on September 16, 2014.

Commissioner Mullen will discuss how Americans can prepare for infectious disease outbreaks, such as Ebola, measles and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). Other topics covered by panelists include weather-related events, dealing with mental health concerns after disasters, and what to do during an active shooting.

In addition to Commissioner Mullen, panelists include Washington Post Weather Editor Jason Samenow, Lieutenant Commander Jamie Seligman of the U.S. Public Health Service, and Richard Parris, Chief Security Officer of Washington DC Court System.
