DPH to Hold Events During National Public Health Week
Hartford – During the first full week of April each year, communities across the country observe National Public Health Week as a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation.
"Public Health Week is a time to celebrate the work of public health professionals for all they do to maximize the health of our residents," said DPH Commissioner Dr. Jewel Mullen. "The week also helps us reaffirm our commitment to making Connecticut a healthier state."
In celebration of Public Health Week, DPH is holding the following events:
DPH Data Day- An Informational Forum on Public Health Data
April 7, 2014, 9:30 AM- 11:00 AM, The Lyceum, 227 Lawrence St, Hartford Attendees will hear from several programs across DPH that maintain important databases and information management systems in the areas of infectious disease, chronic disease, hospitalizations, maternal and child health and environmental health.
Connecticut’s Public Health System: A Google Hangout On Air
April 7, 2014, 12:00 PM- 1:00 PM (Online event) Google Hangouts is a video chat program that hosts panel discussions with an online audience. Panelists include New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, First Selectman Mary Glassman from Simsbury, Professor William Faraclas from Southern Connecticut State University, and Kathi Traugh, president of the Connecticut Public Health Association. They will discuss municipal workforce needs in urban and suburban settings and how schools of public health can prepare to meet those needs.
National Healthy Schools Day: Connecticut Showcases a School Indoor Air Quality Success Story; Tuesday, April 8th, 1:30 p.m., Amity Regional High School, Woodbridge
DPH will join local health and school officials to recognize the Region 5 school system’s work to improve indoor air quality in their schools and to highlight how school environments play an important role in the health and academic success of children.
