Many art projects at home or at school involve paints, markers, glues, sprays, and surface coatings such as stains, varnishes, sealants, glazes. All of these products contain solvents which in some individuals may cause headache, dizziness, eye and throat irritation and can worsen asthma. Lead and cadmium can still be found in some pigments and glazes and high levels of dust can be generated when doing woodwork and pottery. Photography dark room chemicals are very harsh and irritiating.
Chemical(s) of Concern: acetone, turpentine, lead, solvents in paints & glues, metals
Alternatives: Use water based products; use hand-applied brush-on products; avoid powders and aerosol sprays; avoid products with heavy metals such as lead and cadmium; look for the AP/ACMI label
