History:

The Robinson Correctional Institution was opened on November 8, 1985. It is situated on the site of an historic Shaker farm community, which dates from 1792.

In January of 1990, with the implementation of a new Inmate Objective Classification System, the institution's security level was changed to medium-security.

In 1996, Building 7 was turned over to the Judicial Department for use as a juvenile facility.

In 1997, jurisdiction of Building 7 is returned to the facility and re-opened as a housing unit for 71 outside clearance inmates.  It was again closed in 2008.
