Flag-Style Veteran Plate

The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles is now offering a Veteran Plate with a light blue background and a U.S. flag.

The word Veteran is proudly displayed in large letters on the bottom of the plate. This plate does not replace the existing Veteran Plate or the Prisoner of War Plate, but is an additional style plate.

Veteran Plate Series:

The New Veteran plate is available for the following registration classification: passenger, commercial, combination, camper, camp trailer and motorcycle.

To apply by application:

  • Plate requests are made on the Special Plate Application (form M-22).
  • Plate requests must be made for vehicles that are currently registered in Connecticut with a permanent registration and owned or leased by an honorably discharged veteran or the surviving spouse of such veteran. (If the surviving spouse of veteran wishes to apply, he/she must submit a copy of marriage certificate, death certificate, along with required documents).  Active duty members of the Armed Forces may also apply for this plate.
  • A copy of Certificate of Honorable Release or Discharge From Active Duty (form DD 214) or copy of a current United States Uniformed Services ID card or a copy of Connecticut license or ID with US flag symbol must be submitted with the application.
  • You may only acquire the same registration type as you currently have on your vehicle (Example: if your vehicle is currently registered with a Passenger or Handicapped plate types, you can only request a Passenger or Handicapped plate NOT a Prisoner of War or Disabled Veteran plate unless the vehicle is currently registered with those plate types).

Replace Current Plate and Change to the Next Available Veteran Series Plate:

  • These are available in passenger, commercial, combination, camper, camp trailer and motorcycle.
  • Plate requests are made on the Special Plate Application (form M-22).
  • Submit copy of Certificate of Honorable Release or Discharge From Active Duty (form DD-214) or copy of current United States Uniformed Services ID card or a copy of Connecticut license or ID with US flag symbol.  
  • Fee is $27.50.

Remake a Current Plate and Remake to Veteran Plate Background:

  • These are available for passenger, commercial, combination, camper and camp trailer series.
  • Plate requests are made on the Special Plate Application (form M-22).
  • Submit copy of Certificate of Honorable Release or Discharge From Active Duty (form DD-214) or copy of current United States Uniformed Services ID card or a copy of Connecticut license or ID with US flag symbol.
  • Fee is $27.50.

Veteran Plate Background - New Vanity Veteran Plate:

  • These are available for passenger, commercial, combination, camper and camp trailer series.
  • Plate requests are made on the Special Plate Application (form M-22).
  • Submit copy of Certificate of Honorable Release or Discharge From Active Duty (form DD-214) or copy of current United States Uniformed Services ID card or a copy of Connecticut license or ID with US flag symbol .
  • The vehicle must be CURRENTLY REGISTERED in Connecticut. Applications for vehicles registered with plates other than Connecticut plates, out-of-state or with a temporary registration will NOT be accepted.
  • The fee is $96.50.
Veteran motorcycle plates will only accommodate 5 characters or less including the dot.  Vanity plate options - see additional information.
