4th DMV Express Licensing Center Opens in North Haven
Partnership Offers Innovative Solutions to DMV Services
NORTH HAVEN, Conn. -- The fourth new DMV Express service center in 2018 opened today in North Haven with Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman joined by DMV Commissioner Michael Bzdyra, and state and local officials. The opening marks DMV’s continuing effort to improve customer services and provide more convenience for residents across the state. The licensing renewal center will offer appointments up to two months in advance, self-service information kiosks, and text and email messages for a better customer experience.
This state-of-the-art DMV Express center builds on the partnership with Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union. The new license and ID card renewal center is located at 117 Washington Avenue in the Washington Commons plaza, North Haven. In June DMV opened a similar center with Nutmeg in Milford. The other DMV Express centers are located in West Haven City Hall and in Stamford managed by The WorkPlace.
“This latest DMV Express continues to give customers a convenient option to renew driver’s licenses, while at the same time reducing the strain on DMV locations in the area,” Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said.  “The partnership is a testament to cooperation and innovation to better serve Connecticut residents with the best possible services.”

DMV Commissioner Michael Bzdyra said, “The location is very convenient to area residents looking for licensing renewal only DMV Express services and avoid visiting a full service DMV branch. This is the fourth DMV Express partnership so far this year. DMV Express offices help reduce licensing volume in DMV branches and also assists us in reaching the goal of reducing wait times.”
State Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez praised the innovation and customer focus of the DMV-Nutmeg partnership.
“By adapting to a rapidly changing world, Nutmeg has successfully found new and exciting ways to remain a vibrant part of their members’ lives. The DMV Express is a prime example of a successful public-private partnership that benefits not only Nutmeg’s members, but all Connecticut residents and will help to ensure Nutmeg remains a part of this community for years to come. I look forward to the continued success of this joint venture,” said Commissioner Perez.

“We are so excited to open our North Haven DMV Express location,” said John Holt, President and CEO, Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union. “We are also excited to introduce the ability to make license-renewal appointments online, up to two months in advance, at both North Haven and Milford. All of our technology focuses on ease of use whether for Nutmeg transactions or DMV Express. We look forward to serving more people quickly and seamlessly!”

The North Haven DMV Express center will be open every Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.  Hours could be extended in the future.

Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union will charge a convenience fee of $8.00 per DMV transaction. That fee will be waived for customers who are members of the credit union. The office will not process commercial driver licenses, licenses with endorsements/restrictions for public passengers, suspended driver’s licenses, and “Drive Only” license services.  Those services are available at DMV branch offices.
Last year, the DMV solicited requests-for-qualifications from third-party venders interested in operating license and ID card renewal service centers. This was an effort to spur innovation and create a network of convenient offices in New Haven and Fairfield Counties to replace those no longer available in that region’s AAA Northeast offices.
In northern Connecticut, license renewals and other DMV services are offered through AAA Club Alliance, which has offices in Avon, Cromwell, Enfield, Manchester, Old Saybrook, Waterford, and West Hartford.
