Military Personnel Renewing their Connecticut Driver License
***EXTENSION OFFERED: DMV is offering extensions to Connecticut residents with expiring driver’s licenses, ID cards and learner’s permit’s. No late fees will be assessed for eligible credentials. Learn more.
Credentials that expire between March 10, 2020 and May 31, 2020 remain valid until November 30, 2020.
Credentials that expire between June 1, 2020 and November 30, 2020 remain valid until December 31, 2020.
"REAL ID" IS HERE: Starting October 1, 2021, the U.S. Federal Government will require anyone boarding an airplane for domestic travel or entering certain federal buildings to have a "verified" driver's license or state-issued ID card, or be required to show additional proof of identification, such as a passport. If you are in the active service of the armed forces of the United States of America and your home of record is Connecticut, you may renew your Connecticut Driver License for free. What to do:
- Complete a Request for a Connecticut Driver's License/Identifications Card by Mail (B-350)
- In order to waive the renewal fee, submit an Application for Waiver of Operator's License Fee (form B-88).

Military With Honorable Discharge
Once you receive an honorable discharge, you have 60 days after the date of discharge to renew your Connecticut driver license. In-person license renewals are provided by appointment only. This policy only applies to individuals who have been honorably discharged and are able to present documentation to prove this. Military personnel with honorable discharge can also qualify for a one-time renewal fee waiver.
Renewal of a Commercial Driver License or Public Service through the Mail
A Commercial Driver License or Public Service License must be done in person. If you are unable to appear in person and are requesting a renewal, a voluntary downgrade form (P-147) must be completed.

NOTE: A $25 late fee will be charged for the renewal of an expired driver's license.
