Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Test Changes in Connecticut

The Connecticut DMV has revised the CDL Knowledge and Skills tests in order to comply with federal regulations.  The CDL Knowledge and Skills Tests is based on a new version of the CDL Manual.
Download and study this manual for your CDL, or Hazardous Material endorsement (refer to chapter 9 for Hazmat section), knowledge or skills test:
These regulations change the way the test will be conducted, the course dimensions, and add several additional requirements to the on-road segment of the skills test.  All of the new requirements have been added to our CDL manual, which is available on the DMV website.
With regard to the knowledge tests, the following changes are required in order for us to test to federal standards:
  • The General Knowledge test will be comprised of 50 questions (currently 30 questions)
  • The Endorsement tests will be comprised of 20 questions (currently 10 questions) with the exception of the hazardous materials test, which will be 30 questions
  • The Air Brake knowledge test will be comprised of 25 questions (currently 10 questions)
A score of at least 80% correct is required in order to pass all knowledge and skills tests.
