Dispute My Case
If you have received a DMV suspension notice regarding your vehicle insurance, and you would like to dispute the $200.00 fine, there are several ways to do so:
I can prove that I had insurance on the vehicle.
If you can prove you had insurance, please do the following to close your case:
  • Provide a copy of: 1) a letter from your insurance company on its letterhead showing coverage, including coverage for the reported cancellation period, or 2) your new insurance company’s declaration page or permanent insurance card, showing coverage for the reported cancellation period. Send the copy to the address below.
  • You will receive a notification from DMV within 14 days once your documents have been received.
  • Send document(s) to:

I would like to request a hearing to contest my suspension.
If you would like to contest, the hearing is limited to two issues.  1) Was the vehicle registered to you when the insurance was canceled? 2) Did you continuously maintain insurance throughout the registration period?
Please contact (860) 263-5725 before the suspension date on your letter to request a hearing.
