Central District Major Crime Detectives Investigate Hamden Police Officer-Involved Shooting
Hamden, CT. (January 25, 2018): Connecticut State Police detectives from Central District Major Crime is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Hamden.
On January 24, 2018 at approximately 9:09 p.m., a Hamden police officer was flagged down on State St. by a person reporting that there was a masked man armed with a gun robbing Krauser's Food Store.
The Hamden police officer entered Krauser's and confronted the suspect resulting in the officer and suspect exchanging gun fire. The suspect eventually fled the area on foot.
Hamden police, along with state police, surrounding police departments, and K9 teams searched the area before locating the suspect in front of 1825 State St.
The suspect, Kwaun Cole (31 years old) of Hamden was taken into custody and transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries. Cole was treated and released back into Hamden police custody where he was charged by Hamden police with Robbery 1st Degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm and held on $1 million bond.
The Hamden police officer was not injured.
At the request of the New Haven State’s Attorney Office, Connecticut State Police detectives from Central District Major Crime responded to the scene and assumed the officer-involved shooting aspect of this investigation. Hamden Police Department is investigating the armed robbery.
