Troopers Seize 4 Kilos of Cocaine Following I-84 Waterbury Motor Vehicle Stop

On February 13, 2017 at approximately 6:45 p.m. a trooper was traveling I-84 eastbound behind a 2002 Dodge Durango when he observed the operator not wearing a seatbelt, and the vehicle swerve into the right shoulder over the fog line.

Troopers conducted a motor vehicle stop on the I-84 eastbound exit 25a off-ramp.  While speaking with the operator troopers determined illegal narcotics may be present in the vehicle and initiated an investigation.

The vehicle operator, Luis Ortiz, allowed troopers to search his vehicle.  During the course of the investigation troopers located and seized four kilos of suspected cocaine.

Luis Ortiz (dob 8/25/73) was taken into custody and transported to Troop A where he was fingerprinted and photographed.  The cocaine was seized and transported to Troop A where it was held as evidence.

Ortiz was charged with Failure to Wear Seatbelt, Failure to Drive in Proper Lane, Operating without a License, Illegal Sale of Drugs, and Possession of Narcotics.  Ortiz was held on $250,000.00 bond pending a February 14, 2017 court date at Waterbury Superior Court.
