Southbury Police Arrest Waterbury Man following Pursuit, Kidnapping Investigation
 

On February 6, 2017 at approximately 10:45 a.m. troopers and police officers from the Southbury Resident State Trooper’s Office responded to Chase Bank located at 775 Main St. South in Southbury after bank employees were notified that a woman was being forced by a male suspect to withdraw money from her bank account.  The male suspect, Claude Williams, who was known to the female victim, was waiting for her in a vehicle.

Upon officer’s arrival, Williams fled the area in the vehicle.  Officers attempted to stop Williams; however he refused to do so engaging police in pursuit. Williams led officers on a pursuit for approximately 9 minutes through Southbury streets and I-84 before crashing into the center median concrete curbing at the exit 15 off-ramp. No injuries were reported.

After crashing the vehicle, Williams was taken into custody and transported to Troop A- Southbury where he was fingerprinted and photographed.  Once Williams was taken into custody police located illegal narcotics on .  Williams was charged with Kidnapping 1st degree, Unlawful Restraint 1st degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st degree, Robbery 2nd degree, Larceny 3rd degree, Engaging Police in Pursuit, Reckless Driving, Operating with a Suspended License and Illegal Possession of Narcotics. Williams was held on $250,000.00 bond pending his court date at Waterbury Superior Court on February 7, 2017.
