On 07/13/2009, at approximately 5:34 a.m., State Police Troopers from Troop E in Montville and Officers from the East Lyme Resident Troopers Office responded to a report of a person hurt at Camp Niantic campground located at 271 West Main Street (Rt. 156) in East Lyme.

Upon arrival, Troopers and Town Officers found a male victim (Corey Moreau Age 29) of 34 Grant Street, Ludlow, MA. with a laceration to the head, which produced severe bleeding.

The victim Moreau was transported by ambulance to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London where he was admitted for treatment of his injuries, and subsequently released.

State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad Detectives responded to the scene to process the scene and initiate and investigation into this assault.  State Police gathered physical evidence at the scene and conducted numerous witness interviews.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim (Moreau) and the accused, Nicole G. Araujo-Gomez were camping at the campground together when they became involved in a domestic dispute.  Moreau and Araujo-Gomez are dating each other, but Araujo-Gomez is still legally married to accused (Yamir Gomez DOB: 10/28/79).  During the dispute Araujo-Gomez called her husband Gomez to come and pick her up, because of the dispute with Moreau.

As the verbal argument continued and prior to Gomez arrival, Araujo-Gomez struck the victim in the head with a machete, causing a serious head injury.  Gomez also arrived at the scene and also assaulted the victim by punching him several times.  Both accused parties fled the scene.

State Police put out BOLO (Be on the lookout) for the accused persons and the vehicle they were driving.
