State Police Investigate Untimely Death at Northern Correctional Facility

On Wednesday 07/22/09 at 8:24 p.m. State Police Troop C responded to the Northern Correctional Institute located at 287 Bilton Rd. Somers, Ct.  for a report of an inmate that was found unconscious in his cell.

The inmate was found by Department of Corrections officers conducting regular cell checks. He was provided emergency care and transported by ambulance to Johnson Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

State Police identified the inmate as James Moore, DOB: 08-19-1983 of New Haven. He was being held on bond. Moore appeared to have hung himself in his cell. He was the lone occupant of the cell in which he was found. Moore was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford were he was pronounced dead.

State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squads Detectives processed the scene and conducted the investigation into this death. Initial reports indicate no evidence of criminal activity.  The deceased inmate was be transported to the Office of the Chief States Medical Examiner in Farmington where a post mortem examination will be conducted to determine manner and cause of death.
