MARSHAL INVESTIGATE FATAL FIRE

Today 12/16/09 shortly after 7:00 a.m. State Police Troop-I Bethany was notified by the Prospect Fire Department that they were responding to a working structure fire at a single family residence located on 62 Summit Road in Prospect. Fire service responded and found a fully involved structure fire at that residence.

Prospect Resident State Trooper’s Office responded and closed Summit Road to traffic as an assist to the Fire department.   It is anticipated that Summit Road will be closed to traffic for most of today as investigators examine the scene.

Upon suppression of the fire by Prospect Firefighters, they did locate human remains inside of the residence.  The Prospect Fire Marshal requested the assistance of State Police Detectives assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal who specialize in Fire investigations. The Fire Marshals shall investigate the cause of this fire.

Upon completion of the scene investigation the deceased will be taken to the office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner where a post mortem examination will be conducted to determine the manner and cause of death. The identity of the deceased will be withheld pending positive identification and notification of family members.
