                                    STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE

                                SHOOTING DEATH IN SOUTHBURY

   On 11/17/08, at 1:02 p.m., State Police at Troop A received a 911 call from a frantic caller reporting that a person had been shot at a private home located at 26 White Birch Drive Southbury. The Southbury Resident State Trooper, Southbury Town Officers and Troop-A State Police personnel  responded to the scene. Upon arrival police personnel encountered a witness who provided details of the event and a description of a fleeing vehicle and the identity of the driver. Southbury EMS personnel pronounced the victim Ronald Throckmorton dead at the scene and the scene was secured by State Police. State Police Major Crime Squad Detectives were assigned to respond the Southbury shooting scene to initiate the investigation into this incident.  

   The descriptive information of the fleeing car was provided to all police agencies. At approximately 2:01 p.m. Connecticut State Troopers located the suspect car on Rt. 341 in Warren. The operator fled on foot into the adjacent wooded area. State Police K-9 teams, Trooper-1 the State Police Helicopter and additional State Police personnel searched the area for the fleeing occupant identified as STEPHEN THROCKMORTON. During the search Warren Elementary School was locked down and State Police personnel provided security to the school while the search continued. The search continued overnight and at approximately 9:30 a.m. STEPHEN THROCKMORTON was located at a private home on Mountain Laurel Lane in Warren. He was transported by Troopers to Troop-L Litchfield.

   Stephen THROCKMORTON has been charged with Breach of Peace and Interfering with Police.  He is being held on bond to appear in court to answer these charges tomorrow 11/19/08.

   The investigation into this shooting is continuing.
